"The Business of Bringing"
By Gary Christensen

To Bring.. is the "carry along" as when you "bring your lunch with you." In the Business World, to "bring your customer along" means to take them by the hand and lead them to the point of the sale. When seeking members to join your downline, it means to "lead them along"... to show them what you are doing and how you are doing it.

There are many who believe that customers must be "intimidated or pressured" into each sale. To them, their weapons are fear; shame and ridicule. They say, "You've got to scare the customer into buying your product; or make her feel ashamed if she doesn't order one; or to show him how others will ridicule him if he doesn't have one!"

Some sales can be made that way, but if you want customers who'll speak well of you when you're not around; customers who will praise your services to their friends; customers who will come back again and again, you need to "bring" your customers to the point of sale.

(1) PRESENT your product in appealing ways. Use the "warm, soft sell" to win customers over. Don't scare them off with "hard sell" tactics. Customers are people just like you, and they like to be Coaxed along, not coerced; they like to be Invited, not Intimidated; they want to be Treated Tenderly, not threatened. Show them the colors; the choices; the sizes; the selection; the variety; the guarantees; the low prices, etc.

(2) GIVE them a free taste! If you're selling perfume, give them a free smell! If you're selling cookies, give them a free bite! If you're selling shampoo, give them a bottle for a 30 day free trial! If you're selling Cars, let 'em take it for a spin! Let 'em try,.. before they buy!

(3) WIN them over with love! Remember how you gained your sweetheart's affections? Maybe you did nice things,.. took her (or him) to see a movie,.. or went out to dinner? Bought things for her; a card; flowers; other gifts? Showed her (or him) off to your family; wrote her poems; let HER do most of the talking; listened to her; called her on the phone,... romanced her? You showed her your very best side; you wanted to be with her; you made her promises, and you kept your word! You did it all to make her (him) happy! You loved; You gave of yourself!

Do those things to, for and with your customers! Take them to Lunch; or Dinner; Buy them gifts; Introduce them around; Make them feel special; Let the customer do the talking; Call them on the phone; invite them to come with you; Show them your best side; Make them promises and be sure to Keep your Word!

(4) THE RELATIONSHIP Principle! You must GIVE before you GET! The Bible says "God loved us so much he GAVE us his Son!" Others who have gone before said it this way: "Put others first; Help your customer to get what HE wants first, and YOU will get what you want in the process!" To make money, you need to spend money! If you do NOT put out,.. you will NOT take in! ("He who does not work, will not eat!") A gold miner has to sift through a lot of dirt (.. do a lot of work) before he finds the Gold!

Some will say, "There he goes again, always talking about Giving First." But,.. "without a little givin',.. you won't be a gettin'!" I'm not saying you need to give away your whole business, just a few samples. How can ANYONE express their love, or their interest, without showing it, by giving of themselves to another?

(5) FOLLOW-UP with Service! Once you have won your love, and have your spouse, then you need to follow through! Don't let the love die! You need to be there when the love is returned! You need to service after the sale! When the hinges start squeaking, you get the oil and you fix the squeak! If the porch step breaks; you repair it! It's proving your love, by following up, and servicing after the sale!

Promote constantly and quietly! No need to shout, to get your message across. On my TV, all I hear these days are very LOUD commercials! I click down the volume every time! It's the quiet ones that make me sit up and take notice!

This is what the Business of Bringing is all about; Taking your customer along; Bringing them FROM where they are, TO where you want them to be. If you're making money, bring your prospects along. Show them what you do and how you do it. That will help to "sell them" more so then shouting at them; scaring them; intimidating them; coercing them or threatening them!

It takes a little more time; it takes a bit more commitment; a little more effort; just a bit more work, but, you must built up that relationship with them! It's the relationship that will stand; it's the relationship that will make them stay and/or bring them back again & again!
