-Is it time for the establishment of a Free trade Agreement in Asia?

Recent reports suggest that China will complete a free trade agreement with the Association of South East Asian Nations or ASEAN by the year 2010. The specifics of this plan would include Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Brunei by the year by 2010 and Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Burma would all join by the year 2015. Little word on the inclusion of Korea or Japan into this trading network was spoken on the subject. A further distance separates China and the EU, and China and the United States for coming together on a free trade agreement. Outsourcing manufacturing to China continues to increase from many EU countries and the US, but free trade talks have not progressed in decades. Import from China will continue to be determined by the results of these discussions.

For an online business or International distributor importing garments, household goods, consumer electronics, or industrial supplies from China, the demand for a free trade agreement embracing all countries is hoped for to open the trade further. Global distribution continues to be limited by the scope and nature of these tariffs, but the income for governments and the political demand to protect markets can sometimes be too strong. Some worry that local economies would be overrun by free trade agreements that open the doors to unlimited import from China. But this protectionist line is antithetical to multinational enterprise and global distribution networks. Suppliers online who import from China will continue to hope for changes in this system and the swift negotiation of a free trade agreement. But many also hope for lower taxes or other benefits that never seem to arrive. It is important nevertheless not to lose an import opportunity due to undue import taxes and customs duties.
